Sweet Treats For Your Chicken Flock

Everyone loves to have a treat, and so do your chickens! Here are my top three treats for your flock.

1. Berries

Raspberries, Strawberries, Blueberries, you name it, and your chickens will love it! Besides being a tasty treat, berries, are known to help control blood pressure in the heart. Throw a few in the coop and watch your flock gobble them up!

2. Pumpkin

Pumpkins are an excellent treat for your hens. I find the best way to set up the pumpkin is to cut off some of the tough outer skin and hang it from the roof as a makeshift feeder. Your birds will love to peck away at this treat and as an added bonus pumpkin seeds are a natural dewormer.

3. Mealworms

Sounds very appetizing, doesn’t it? Good thing this treat is for the chickens and not you. Mealworms are a high protein treat that your birds will go nuts for. I find mealworms to be a great treat to use when you are training your birds for a show at your local fair. When I used mealworms for my flock, I managed to train them to come to me whenever I whistled for them to get their treats.

Bouns Treat To Beat The Summer Heat!

Staying cool and hydrated during the hot summer days is essential for both you and your flock. To make this frozen treat, you need to take a can of corn and put the corn into a muffin tin. Next, you will want to top of the corn with water and put the tin into the freezer. Once the water is frozen, you will have some cool refreshing treats for your hens. Your birds will peck away at the ice and shall be rewarded with pieces of corn!
