Call To Adventure | Week 56
“When telling a story the character’s perspective is what gives life to the tale.” – Bryce Ward 5/29/2021
What makes a story? Every week I have worked to answer that question with each new short story I write. One way I experiment with storytelling is by hanging the perspective of characters telling the story. For example, is the tale about bloodthirsty pirates told by survivors of the pirate raid at a bar, or is it shared by a Captain hunting down the pirates. There are always so many points of view and ways to tell a story. For me finding those different perspectives and writing their tales is what draws me to storytelling.

In every story, I aim to answer the question. Why does this character go on an adventure? I have had characters exploring the world for treasure to pay off old debts, and others are simply on the run from monsters hunting them down. However, for this week’s story, I want to try something different. I have written horror stories and tales of adventure, but I haven’t tried writing on topics closer to my world. Romance and questioning the world we live in. I know not what the tale will look like, but I’m excited to explore a new realm of adventure.
